Bears, Ballads and the Triumph of Time
Wednesday 8 October
7:45pm at the Mary Wallace Theatre

This is a free event, non-members are welcome. Right of admission reserved. Please arrive early to avoid disappointment.

What have the Fairy King and two polar bear cubs got to do with The Winter’s Tale, and what does an eye-witness account of a performance in Shakespeare’s lifetime tell us about it?
What has catching rabbits got to do with a tale of jealousy, oracles, flowers and statuary? What does a scrap of paper from a bureaucrat’s waste-bin tell us about the play’s history?
Join Gerald Baker’s tour of Shakespeare’s late masterpiece: where it came from, what else was happening in the theatre of the day, and what happened after its premiere. From music and tempest to pick-pockets and shepherds, this talk about The Winter’s Tale will be as various as the play itself.
