KING JOHN

by William Shakespeare
Saturday 5 to Saturday 12 March 2011
Mary Wallace Theatre

Shakespeare's fascinating study of English power politics strays far from the common image of King John as the weak monarch forced to sign Magna Carta. Here he is portrayed battling with France and defending England's rights against the power of the Catholic Church - but at the cost of his own family. Filled, as ever, with memorable characters and wonderful verse the play has a strong underlying vein of black comedy.
