TAKING SIDES

by Ronald Harwood
Directed by:
Saturday 28 January to Saturday 4 February 2012
Mary Wallace Theatre

Conductor Wilhelm Furtwangler, prized by Hitler as the cultural jewel in the crown of the Third Reich, became a post-war target for interrogation as a Nazi sympathiser. Ronald Harwood's 1995 play, a hit in the West End and on Broadway, pits Furtwangler against his hostile American interrogator, Major Steve Arnold, who has witnessed the horrors of Belsen. Their impassioned debate on the conflict between art and politics makes gripping theatre, and challenges members of the audience themselves to 'take sides'.
