Macbeth

by William Shakespeare
directed by Claudette Williamson

Macbeth

The Weird Sisters’ prophecy unleashes a passion in Macbeth, deep and uncontrollable, that not only threatens to destroy him and all who come in contact with him but the very roots of his society. Even nature is destabilized by the violence of his corrupt desire.

‘Macbeth’ is Shakespeare’s most concise portrait of evil but while Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are undoubtedly vicious and cruel, they are without question tragic heroes. Once they start on their terrible path we see their options begin to close before them. They take on a battle with destiny which they simply cannot win. This is tragic and awesome.
